‘Trans women are women’ projected onto London landmark after Pride hijack controversy
The message ‘Trans women are women’ has been projected onto the side of the Ministry of Justice, after controversy at Pride in London over the weekend.
PinkNews reported live from the Pride in London march on Saturday (July 7) as a group of radical feminist campaigners forced their way into the front of the march.
Pride in London organisers have issued an apology for the incident, after the group were allowed to lead the Pride parade across much of its route bearing the sign “Transactivism erases lesbians” while distributing anti-transgender leaflets.

Following the spat, Dazed teamed up with activist group Illuminator to project the message ‘Trans women are women’ and ‘Trans men are men’ onto the side of the Ministry of Justice.
Dazed wrote: “In 2017, one in five LGBTQ people experienced a hate crime, and even at Pride trans people were attacked. We stand with trans people, and the government needs to do more to protect the rights of LGBTQ people. ⠀
“Will you stand with us?”

It was part of Dazed’s #AddressTheNation stunt, which also saw ‘No Trump’ and ‘Cancel Trump’ projected onto the side of the Houses of Parliament and Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square ahead of the US leader’s controversial visit to the UK this month.
Dazed explained: “For a new project, #AddressTheNation, we took issues that matter most to our readers and projected them into the skyline of London — specifically, onto the Houses of Parliament, the Ministry of Justice, The Royal Courts of Justice, and Nelson’s Column.
“Across nine projections, we addressed everything from Theresa May’s crumbling Brexit plans to street-level abuse of trans people at London Pride.”

The Illuminator is an activist group known for projecting messages onto public buildings, famously projecting the message ‘There is a rapist in the White House’ onto the side of Trump International Hotel in Washington.
Pride in London has issued a lengthy apology after the anti-transgender protest.
Organisers said: “Their behaviour was shocking and disgusting, and we condemn it completely.
“The lesbian board members at Pride in London made their anger towards the unsanctioned group clear and our organisation as a whole condemns their actions. The protest group showed a level of bigotry, ignorance and hate that is unacceptable.
“We reject what this group stands for. They do not share our values, which are about inclusion and respect and support for the most marginalised parts of our community.
“As volunteers, we are shocked and appalled by this behaviour, not least because some felt threatened by the protesters. We are treating this extremely seriously and will be reviewing what happened with the Greater London Authority, the Metropolitan Police, Westminster City Council, TfL and continuing to consult with our Community Advisory Board.
“We will also be working with groups who have offered support given this issue must be stamped out and we will do everything we can to use our platform for good.”
