Mara Wilson star of ‘Matilda’ hits out at Graham Linehan trans tweets

Mara Wilson has hit out at tweets by Father Ted and IT Crowd writer Graham Linehan, who suggested trans women erase cisgendered lesbians.

The star of Matilda responded to Linehan, who during his Twitter rant said the anti-trans protesters who interrupted London Pride are ā€œfucking heroes.ā€

Linehan was referring to a small group of women who interrupted the capitalā€™s pride parade and showed banners with anti-trans slogans and handed out extreme transphobic literature.

During his tirade Linehan responded to Wilson who criticised an article by Skylar Baker-Jordan for an opinion piece he wrote about trans women.

ā€œMara, do we have to be effected by an issue to comment on it? Thatā€™s a basic tenet of progressivism, isnā€™t it, that we do not? And anyway, how does erasing the reality of homsexuality (sic) NOT effect him?,ā€Linehan wrote to Wilson.

The pair then started to debate the issue and Wilson defended the representation of trans people.

Linehan responded by asking what was wrong with Wilson, to which the bisexual actress replied: ā€œAnd I highly doubt you, Mr. Linehan, (or the people railing against me for suggesting that calling transgender people ā€œmentally illā€ implies that mentally ill and transgender people both are to be subjugated and ostracized) are going to change my mind on this.ā€

The writer then accused Wilson of being a scientologist before being taken down by a brilliant one-liner from the Matilda actress.

Referring to the writerā€™s creation the IT Crowd, Mara wrote: ā€œGraham have you considered turning yourself off and on again.ā€

One Twitter user wrote: “Name a more impressive crossover. The IT Crowd guy just tried to mansplain to Matilda and got slam dunked by her instead.ā€

Before tweeting about the protesters at pride Linehan wrote: ā€œDo the voices of transexuals, women, intersex people and gay men not count when they oppose a fashionable ideology? The whole thing reeks. It’s homophobia, misogyny and yes, even transphobia, elbowing its way to the front of Pride marches.ā€

The 50-year-old continued to make a point which appeared to take aim at trans lesbians.

ā€œShitting on women, dismissing their concerns and fears, harassing and threatening them, accusing them of lying, or exaggerating, Ā is not progressivism. Call it something else. Like the word ‘lesbian’, it’s taken. Find another word,ā€ he said.
