Nicki Minaj in ‘homophobic’ controversy after saying ‘cock sucker of the day’
Nicki Minaj has caused āhomophobicā controversy for a second time during the release of her new album, after casually labelling Travis Scottās co-manager the ācock sucker of the day.ā
During a rant on her Beats 1 radio show the rapper blamed Irving Azoff for putting out a āsmear campaignā against her latest tour.
Scott, who beat her out for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week, was also slammed by the singer in an earlier show.
But some fans pointed out that Minaj was using ācock suckerā in a way which portrayed men who have sex with men in a negative light.
One listener wrote on Twitter: āWas Nicki using cock sucker as a negative thing?, I suck cock for fun, before bed, in the morning and as a snack during the day and so does more than half of your fan base mama.ā
But other tweeters seemed untroubled by the artistās comment and many wrote how funny they found the phrase.
āDonāt leave without giving out that cock sucker of the day Nicki #QueenRadio,ā another person said on the social media site.
The controversy comes just a week after the 35-year-old was criticised for āoffensiveā and āhomophobicā lyrics in āQueenā, the artistās latest album.
The latest catalogue, which was released on August 10, references themes related to gay culture in two tracks.
On the song āBarbie Dreamsā, which is about all of the men sheās rejected and lists other artists such as Drake, 50 Cent and DJ Khaled, Minaj describes Young Thug in what some see as a derogatory manner.
The artistās lyrics explain that she didnāt continue a relationship with Young Thug because the rapper likes to wear dresses.
āUsed to fuck with Young Thug / I aināt addressing this shit / caught him in my dressing room / stealing dresses and shit / I used to give this ni**a with a lisp testers and shit / how you want the pu-thy? / canāt say sās and shit,ā Minaj raps.
Another track on the album which has also received criticism from LGBT fans is āMajestyā which features guest artists Eminem and Labrinth.
During the song she says: āWho want it with Nicki now? / I smoke āem like hippies now / they see me say āYippieā now / home runninā like Griffey now / they switchinā like sissies now / you n***as is iffy now.ā
Some disgruntled listeners hit out at Minajās use of the word āsissiesā, labelling it as ācasual homophobia.ā
One Twitter user wrote: āI was about to buy @NickiMinajās album #Queen until I heard her track with Eminem where she says āThey switching like sissies nowā ā sweetie, the LGBT community are the majority of your fanbase and got you to where you are. Casual homophobia in 2018? Youāre over sis. #QueenRadio.ā
The same ex-fan on social media also wrote: āThe barbz will do anything to defend Nicki, as a barb I used to do the same. But thereās a young gay boy out there listening to her music hearing āfaggotā and āsissyā ā the same taunts he gets from bullies at school and is wondering why even his idol is against him.ā
However some fans defended Minaj against the accusations and said it was āa reachā for people to be complaining about āhomophobicā lyrics.
One fan wrote: ā[Sic] Lmao, that couldve meant anythingā¦ stop being so damn sensitive and actually dicpher what she was saying. Nicki got punchlines that make you think twice. āSissiesā could mean scaredy cat, baby, or wimp. Switching up means theyre switching up and becoming scared of her.ā
Minaj has not yet responded or commented publicly about the accusations
