Anna Kendrick opens up about kissing Blake Lively and her sexuality
Anna Kendrick has opened up about her sexuality.
The star, who was vocal about hoping for a “passionate” lesbian sex scene in Pitch Perfect 3, also said she wanted a lesbian love story ending for the series’ characters Beca and Chloe.
In an interview with Pride Source, Kendrick, 33, was asked about whether she had ever been romantically attracted to a woman.
“There’s somebody I’m still friends with, and when we met we kissed,” the actress said.
“This was after high school, and it was the first time I had kissed a girl where it wasn’t just like, we’re at a party and boys are watching! That horrible performance silliness.
“But I think I haven’t had that emotional love for a lady, which isn’t saying it could never happen to me.”
She also spoke about A Simple Favor, an upcoming film in which she kisses co-star Blake Lively.
Kendrick plays Stephanie in the thriller, which sees her mysterious new best friend Emily – played by Lively – disappear, prompting Stephanie to start searching for her.
When asked about the two characters’ sexualities, Kendrick said: “I think Emily is a surprise for Stephanie, and she is completely in love with her in a way that she can’t totally understand.
“I do think that Stephanie probably would define herself as straight, except that there is this woman and she really is kind of in love with her and there is a part of her that is attracted to her.”
The 33-year-old star said that “Emily is very comfortable with the fluid aspects of her sexuality, whereas Stephanie has more of an emotional component to it.”
She then added: “I’m more of an Emily than a Stephanie.”
When it came to the kiss, Kendrick said that she remembered “Blake and I both feeling like neither of us wanted to be the aggressor in the scene.
“Blake was worried that she would come off as taking advantage of me in that scene because I’m in a very vulnerable place, and I was worried that I would come off like I wanted so much more.”
She also reiterated her desire for the Pitch Perfect films to finish with her character, Beca, getting together with Chloe, saying: “I definitely wanted to have an ending that was a Bechloe ending.”
Kendrick even revealed that “Brittany [Snow] and I tricked everybody into just shooting one that was just the two of us getting together. We knew it was a long shot.
It meant so much to us that there was this following around their latent relationship and, yeah, I thought it would’ve been really cool if it would have ended up coming to fruition in the end.
“If we ever do a four, I will fight tooth and nail for it,” she promised.
Last year, Kendrick’s Pitch Perfect co-star Ruby Rose revealed her celebrity crushes, picking Gigi and Bella Hadid because they were “so stupidly beautiful and so stupidly nice.”
Rose was cast as Batwoman in the upcoming CW series earlier this month, which led to a horrific backlash and the star deleting her Twitter account.
