Great British Bake Off’s queer fans have huge crushes on Ruby and Manon

Great British Bake-Off is back – and its LGBT+ fans are split between delight and disappointment.

The Channel 4 show’s queer female viewers are crushing hard on Ruby and Manon, while many of its male supporters are devastated at the lack of attractive men in the GBBO tent.

This was especially disappointing for them in light of the fact, as confirmed by GBBO runner-up Ruby Tandoh, that the show is “queer culture.”

Last year’s series had fan-favourite Yan, a lesbian contestant who captured hearts with her creative, upbeat attitude – but by the sounds of it, followers of the show are even more enamoured with two of the new competitors.

Ruby, 29, attracted adoring fans pretty quickly, with one commenting: “Okay so all the gays agree that we fancy Ruby.”

Another said: “Ruby is so stunning and my gay ass is loving it .”

One chipped in with: “Ruby is trending n it’s mostly gays lusting after her and honestly same.”

Thirst levels were similarly high when it came to 26-year-old Manon, who won star baker in the series’ first episode tonight (August 28).

One commented: “manon (the hot french one) hasn’t even baked anything yet but I already want her to win so she can write a cookbook and I can go to her book signing and then propose.”

Another tweeted: “I have had time to ponder after #GBBO and have decided I am gay for Manon.”

“I’m glad Manon is staying because – and this is crucial – I am very gay and she is very pretty,” said a tweeter who has her priorities in the correct order.

And one fan wanted to make it clear that both women were wonderful, writing: “Hi so firstly: Ruby is a stunning work of art and my gay ass is having problems, I really loved the showstopper challenge this year, Manon is wonderful, I’m really looking forward to this season.”

However, queer men were not best pleased with the lack of eye candy on the show.

Stay-at-home gay dad Dan won some hearts, despite or maybe because of his approximation of a baby which ended up looking ever-so-slightly phallic.

But when it came to supplying a TV crush, the show seemingly fell short, according to many of its fans.

One viewer said: “Don’t think there are any Gay Thirst contestants this year.”

A different viewer tweeted: “Not to come across all gay twink of 2018 but where’s the fit dad?”

“I’m sorry but where’s the cute baking guys?!” asked another, adding: “#GBBO please play to your audience of gays & middle aged women.”

Last year, the show put rainbow cakes at the heart of its advertising campaign.

The show faced criticism in 2016 as the contestants were announced holding bowls of icing that seemingly marked their gender, with women holding pink icing and men holding blue.
