Halsey goes viral with perfect response to haters telling her she’s not bisexual
Halsey has hit back at trolls who told her she wasn’t bisexual because she’s going out with a man.
To celebrate National Coming Out Day on Thursday, the star posted an Instagram photo of her on the cover of a magazine’s pride issue — only to receive hateful comments telling her she wasn’t queer.
The “Bad At Love” singer has had to deal with bi-erasure before, tweeting last year that “if I’m dating a guy I’m straight, and if I date a woman, I’m a lesbian. The only way to be a #True bisexual is to date 2 people at once.”
She put the satire to one side this time, though, after commenters responded to her message that “ya girl is #OutAndProud” with replies like: “Out as what?? You’re dating a man.”
Another wrote: “Pride for what shes a straight girl who hook up with the occasion fm when shes high.”
There were other comments questioning how she could be queer if she was going out with a man, namely her current boyfriend, rapper G-Eazy.
“But isn’t she with g eazy,” wrote one, while another commenter said: “What about @g_eazy ?”
These haters apparently didn’t absorb the end of Halsey’s caption, where she wrote: “Easily one of the mostest proudest moments of my life!” followed by the bisexual flag in heart emojis.
The 24-year-old singer, who has released explicitly bisexual love songs — like “Strangers” with bi Fifth Harmony star Lauren Jauregui — used her Instagram story to hit back.
“So I posted on my Instagram for National Coming Out Day that I’m out and proud, and everyone’s commenting like, ‘But aren’t you dating G-Eazy?'” she said into the camera, before making an important public service announcement.
“So I wanted to take a moment to make a PSA to remind you that — bisexual people. We exist.”
Her fans loved this clapback, with one tweeting: THANK YOU!! If @halsey dates a man, she’s still bisexual, and if she dated a woman, she would STILL BE BISEXUAL!!”
Another wrote: “Halsey doing her PSA that bisexual people exist! HELL YES QUEEN. BI PRIDE.”
And one fan needed caps lock to express her excitement, tweeting: “HALSEY JUST WENT ON A RANT CAUSE SHE SAID SHE WAS OUT AND PEOPLE WERE TALKING S**T AND SHE WENT umm bisexual people exist. WE STANNNNN @halsey.”
Halsey has never been afraid to speak out about her sexuality, demonstrating this fact once again by releasing “Bad At Love,” a song about same-sex relationships, as the second single from her album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.
The star came out in 2015 — unlike the at least 37 celebrities who have taken the brave step over the past 12 months.
