Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation will transform the fantasy novels behind the popular video game series into a new binge-worthy television series. But who is Anya Chalotra, the young actress confirmed to play Yennefer?
Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series of short stories and novels has plenty of potential for TV producers keen to occupy the space that will open up once Game of Thrones‘s final series airs, most likely in 2019.
With an existing fanbase already invested in the exploits of Geralt of Rivia thanks to the best-selling The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the show has all the promise of a cross-over success in the waiting.
So fans of the video games, the books, or both, will have been excited by the recent news that Netflix have cast the female lead to play Ciri alongside Henry Cavill as Geralt. But who is Anya Chalotra, the young actress chosen to play the other big female role in the series?
Who is Anya Chalotra: The Witcher’s Yennefer?

The young star, much like her fellow casting choice Freya Allan, only has a few roles on her CV to date. However, with at least one major series under her belt already, she’s not quite a total unknown.
Anya appeared in the BBC and Netflix co-production Wanderlust which also starred Toni Collette and Steven Mackintosh as a middle-aged couple redefining their relationship after several decades together. She appeared in four episodes of the series, playing the role of Jennifer Ashman.
She was also cast in a small role in The A.B.C. Murders, a BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic detective novel, which recently began filming.
Signed to the Artists Partnership talent agency and based in London, Anya trained at the Guildhall School of Drama and Music where she appeared in various productions, taking on the role of Vladimir in Waiting for Godot as well as Ranyevskaya in The Cherry Orchard.
She also appeared in Matthew Dunster’s production of Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in 2017, playing the part of Hero.
