Theresa May signed ‘Dancing Queen’ vinyl auctioned at PinkNews Awards after viral dance
Prime Minister Theresa May made headlines across the world earlier this month when she awkwardly danced on stage to ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.
Now, the PM has donated a vinyl of the Swedish pop group’s hit song to the PinkNews Awards auction to help raise funds for LGBT+ human rights charity, the Kaleidoscope Trust.

The PinkNews Awards happen annually, and the ceremony this year is supported by Lloyds Banking Group.
The signed vinyl is one of a number of items set to feature in the auction, along with a copy of the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act 2013, donated and signed by David Cameron, tickets for the royal ballet, and a tour of the Lorraine and Good Morning Britain studios, donated by Lorraine Kelly herself.
The proceeds from the vinyl, and from all other auction items, will go to Kaleidoscope Trust, the charity partner of the PinkNews Awards 2018.
May’s awkward dance to “Dancing Queen” earlier this month made waves all across the world. Swedish Ambassador Torbjörn Sohlström tweeted his congratulations to the PM following the routine, praising her for choosing the Swedish band’s hit.
In her speech at the conference, May set out her vision for a Conservative Party that is “not afraid of change.”
She described her party as one “that believes your success in life should not be defined by who you love, your faith, the colour of your skin, who your parents were or where you were raised, but your talent and your hard work.”

Last year, Theresa May became the first sitting UK Prime Minister to attend the PinkNews Awards.
Speaking at the ceremony last year, she said: “We need to keep up our action, so we are pressing ahead with inclusive relationship and sex education in English schools, making sure that LGBT issues are taught well. We’re determined to eradicate homophobic and transphobic bullying.
“On the world stage, we’re standing up for LGBT rights, and challenging those governments that inflict discrimination.
“I’m proud to lead a Cabinet with two out members, David Mundell, the first out gay man in a Conservative cabinet, and Justine Greening, the first out gay woman in any cabinet.”
