A scary amount of LGBT women and non-binary folks report seeing a ghost

A quarter of LGBT+ women and non-binary people think they have seen or been in the presence of a ghost.
This figure was the result of Autostraddle’s Lesbian Stereotypes Survey, whose 12,317 responses were compared to those of the general American population, faced with a similar question in a research by the Pew Research Center.
Around 25 percent of LGBT+ women and non-binary respondents to the Autostraddle survey reported a supernatural encounter, compared to 18 percent of the general population—it is unclear whether they meant that they’d been ‘ghosted’ by inconsiderate dates.
LGBT+ women and non-binary folk were also more hesitant than the general population in categorically excluding the possibility of having witnessed a spirit from another dimension, with 19 percent of respondents answering the question with “I don’t know” compared to the rest of the population.

Overall, a majority—56 percent—of queer women and non-binary people said they had never been visited by a spectral form, compared to 80 percent of all Americans.
The Zodiac signs also seem to indicate an increased affinity with paranormal activity. Aquariuses were the most likely to have met a spirit from the other side, while if you call yourself a Sagittarius, you were the least likely to have a ghoulish experience.

Well…no (Pexels)The survey results may be of interest to the Spiritual Science Research Foundation, a paranormal organisation with hundreds of thousands of followers which hit the headlines in 2016 after claiming that most gay people were actually possessed by ghosts.
In an article on ghost possession, the group claimed that 85 percent of gay men and lesbians were possessed by ghosts of the opposite gender to them, and that this was the root cause of their homosexuality.

In the piece, which is still available on the organisation’s website, it is ‘explained’ that the “ghost’s consciousness overpowers the person’s normal behaviour to produce the homosexual attraction.”
For the remaining 15 percent of gay men and lesbians who aren’t possessed, the organisation stated in a different article that they’d be 50 percent more likely to become controlled by a ghost if they celebrate Halloween.

Back then, only 16 percent of adults said they knew a trans person, which was less than the percentage who had seen a paranormal spectre.
Thankfully, that figure has now more than doubled to 37 percent, according to the Pew Research Centre.
