Ezra Miller ‘physically attacked’ for wearing floral outfit
Fantastic Beasts star Ezra Miller has revealed that he has been repeatedly attacked for his genderfluid outfits.
The queer actor, who reprises the role of Credence in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, spoke to ES Magazine about struggles growing up as a young queer person.
Miller said: “I was repeatedly assaulted as a young teenager, for being weird and gender ambiguous. They couldn’t figure out if I was a boy or a girl, and they thought that was hilarious and also despicable.
“I’ve been physically attacked in public for wearing short floral overalls.”

“There were also [boys] who wanted to make out with me because they thought I was a girl. And when they found out I wasn’t, they were very angry, as if I’d been deceptive.”
The actor added that he has been attacked on several occasions because of the way he dresses.
He said: “I’ve been physically attacked in public for wearing short floral overalls.”
Reeling off a list, he added: “I’ve been attacked in New Jersey, New York City, Asheville, North Carolina at a Waffle House…”
The actor turned heads earlier this year when he showed up to Comic-Con as sexy Toadette.
Miller rocked up to the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald panel event in a skimpy pink outfit, complete with a giant mushroom head.
Elsewhere in the interview, Ezra Miller opened up about facing negative attitudes in the film industry after coming out as queer in 2012.
He said: “There were people [in the industry] who gave me a rough time for coming out. Still, the years of exploration since have been ‘a beautiful, ongoing and very sexy journey’.”
The full interview appears in this week’s issue of ES Magazine, out Thursday (November 8).
The actor is doing the rounds to promote Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which is released on November 16.
Ezra Miller spoke about his gender identity
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Miller said he doesn’t see himself as a man or a woman.
He said: “I don’t identify. Like, f**k that.
“Queer just means no, I don’t do that. I don’t identify as a man. I don’t identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human.”
He also opened up about his own #MeToo moment, which came at the hands of a director and producer he declined to name.
“They gave me wine and I was underage,” said Miller. “They were like: ‘Hey, want to be in our movie about gay revolution?’ And I was like: ‘No, you guys are monsters.'”
The 26-year-old actor added that one shining light of the current period is the ability to call out “unacceptable” actions like these.
“We f***ing survived it. That’s what Hollywood is. I thought we all knew we were sex workers.”
Speaking to Total Film, Miller confirmed he wants the character of Albus Dumbledore to be gay as much as fans do—and it sounds like they won’t be disappointed.
