John Barrowman has said that he wants to be known as both the King and Queen of the Jungle if he wins ITV’s 2018 I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Barrowman, who is the bookmakers’ current favourite to win the show’s title, said: “I would be over the moon if I won. I would be the King or Queen of the Jungle.”

And he made his position clear, adding: “I want both crowns.”

Who is John Barrowman?

Barrowman is an openly gay actor, who rose to fame on TV shows including Doctor Who, Torchwood and Arrow.

He also told ITV that “eating bums, balls and willies, I’m totally cool with” ahead of the show’s return on November 18.

The 51-year-old explained: “I will do my damnedest in challenges so that we’re not, any of us, hangry. If somebody is not motivated to get those stars, I might be unforgiving.”

As well as being a renowned actor, Barrowman is also a singer, presenter and author.

Where is he from?

Barrowman has dual nationality being Scottish-American. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and then emigrated to the United States when he was a child, which is when he picked up his American accent.

In San Diego, California, Barrowman studied performing arts and it’s after that that his acting career took off.

John Barrowman vows not to change

The gay star, who married his partner Scott Gill in 2013 after being together for two decades, is determined to stay true to himself.

“I think some people may have a problem with me,” said Barrowman, 51, who will compete with celebrities including The Inbetweeners actor Emily Atack, football manager Harry Redknapp and Coronation Street star Sair Khan for the jungle crown.

“I don’t really care what you think about me, I’m still gonna be me.”

He said that Gill “thinks it will be awesome,” but that he would be making the most of being away from his husband.

“Will I be pining for him? Oh gosh no! I am looking forward to the quiet!” Barrowman explained.

“I am very logical and I know that once this show is done, I will be back at work. It’s not like I am never going to sit on a sofa and watch TV again!”

How does John Barrowman feel about the jungle?

Barrowman admitted that he was “both excited and nervous now. I like a challenge, I like a competition and I might make some new friends out of it.”

“To be blunt, it will also be nice to have some ‘me’ time! Nobody will be able to get in touch, text or email. I know it’s a game and I am not going in to be a misery,” Barrowman added.

He said he was ready for anything the jungle could throw at him—apart from any claustrophobic Bushtucker trials.

“If they put me in a box like a coffin, I know I am going to have a problem,” Barrowman confessed.

“I will have to really figure that one out when it happens as I know filming Torchwood, there was a scene where we filmed in a coffin. They put me in a coffin in a drawer and I couldn’t do it.

“It was see-through, so I could see space but I couldn’t do it. I had a panic. That might be the challenge that is most fearful for me.

“But realistically, you know they are not going to do anything that hurts you,” he added.

“And OMG I want to do the trials for sure. I want people to vote for me. I want to keep myself busy.”
