Gretchen Wilson comes out as having a ‘gusband’
Country musician Gretchen Wilson has come out as having a “gusband”—a portmanteau of “gay” and “husband.”
The Grammy Award-winning singer opened up about her “gusband,” fashion designer Chad Laboy, on the red carpet at the Annual Country Music Association Awards (CMA) on November 14.
The star revealed Laboy had designed her sparkling outfit, which replaced her usual blue jeans, belt, and shirt attire.

Speaking to Access about her red carpet look at the CMAs, Wilson said: “I met a friend this year, and he is my new ‘gusband.'”
She added: “He told me there is no way you’re going to the red carpet in the same old drab, drab yucky that you’ve always done. So he took this jumpsuit and basically turned it into something that was fabulously me… and he made me feel like a princess.”

Wilson, who has released eight albums, told PinkNews that she believes that LGBT+ people should be able to love who they want.

“I have always believed that every person deserves to experience love in their own way,” she told PinkNews.
“That has never changed for me. I just like to surround myself with good people. We don’t have to have everything in common.
Asked why it was important for her to highlight LGBT+ issues on the red carpet, she said: “As far as the importance of speaking on it at the CMAs… I’m surprised if doesn’t happen more often.”

Laboy previously attracted attention when he proposed to his boyfriend at the time during the music video for Kelly Clarkson’s track “Heartbeat Song.”
Clarkson later revealed that the special moment was completely unplanned.
“He didn’t know that his boyfriend was going to propose to him,” she reportedly said. “No one knew, so he was kinda confused in the video because he was going, ‘Is this real? Or for the video?’”
“It was just the most amazing thing to capture that live, and them embracing and that kiss, that was real,” she continued.
