John Barrowman has opened up on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! about how his work and husband have stopped him from becoming a father.

Viewers saw the openly gay 51-year-old Doctor Who, Torchwood and Arrow actor confess: “I still would like to adopt,” before explaining that his partner Scott Gill, who he married in 2013 after two decades of being together, was one of the reasons he doesn’t have a child yet.

“It has to be a partnership thing and I don’t think Scott is ready for it”

“I can’t just go out and buy one at Tesco and bring it home,” said Barrowman on the ITV show.

“It has to be a partnership thing and I don’t think Scott is ready for it.

“He keeps saying to me: ‘If you wanna do it, just do it.’ However, I can’t just do that, as he has to be on board.

“At the moment I’ve got a company that I run with my business partner, and I’m still on Arrow, and I’m travelling all over the place, and it would be unfair to have a child that I would never really see.”

John Barrowman makes special I’m a Celebrity entrance

The actor entered the jungle on a speedboat, performing the Floss dance from Fortnite—naturally.

He also showed a waiter how to perform a ballet move, the pas de bourrée, and revealed what he’ll miss most in the jungle, listing: “My dogs, my husband and my mum and dad.”

The actor, who has starred in numerous musicals on Broadway and the West End including The Fix, Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera, said before I’m a Celebrity started that he would have to restrain his habit of singing so ITV wouldn’t have to pay royalties—but promptly broke into song when settled in the camp.

As well as this mildly annoying habit, he admitted that viewers can look forward to a host of more alarming behaviours.

“I might pick my nose, I might fart while I’m in bed and I might also wet the bed,” Barrowman confessed.

“If I dream that I have to pee, I’ll pee. I ain’t walking to the f**king dunny. I’ll just pee right off the side of the hammock,” he added, laughing.

On the plus side, he’s made fans of Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington—who tweeted: “Oh I just love @JohnBarrowman”—and Stephen Amell, who plays the titular character on The CW’s Arrow, which Barrowman is set to return to as supervillain Malcolm Merlyn.

John Barrowman explains gender neutral title remarks

The star said last week that he wanted to be known as both the King and Queen of the Jungle if he won the show, leading many to wonder if he wanted to identify as gender neutral.

He has now clarified that his comments, which included him saying: “I want both crowns,” were not him coming out, but instead a way of him giving non-binary identities more recognition.

“I don’t just want to be King of the Jungle, I want to be King and Queen of the Jungle and cross the gender lines,” he explained.

“I make that joke but I am a very big supporter of LGBTQ rights around the world and I talk like that because I feel it’s better that we normalise everything rather make everybody feel different.”

Barrowman continued: “I am a gay man, I identify as a gay man and I like other men and I have no problem saying that—I don’t think anybody should have a problem with saying what they like, who they like or how they like.”
