Andy Cohen has hit back at homophobic responses to his New Year’s Eve show with Anderson Cooper.

The Watch What Happens Live host co-hosted CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve Live countdown show in New York City alongside CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, stepping into the shoes of embattled comic Kathy Griffin.

However, the sight of two out-and-proud gay men hosting a show together was enough to unleash a tidal wave of abuse on social media.

While fans loved the dynamic between Cooper and Cohen on the show, the pair have also faced a slew of anti-gay responses.

Andy Cohen reveals baby gender live on air

Cohen made a special announcement on the New Year’s Eve broadcast, revealing he is expecting a baby son via surrogate.

He told Cooper: “It’s a boy, and I cannot wait to meet this boy. I’m so excited.

“I did it with a surrogate…when I was growing up and when we were growing up, I just never thought it would be possible as a gay man to grow up and have a family, but here we are, almost in 2019, and anything’s possible.”

He added: “By the way, by the time it became possible, I was kind of having too much fun in my life to say, ‘I don’t think I can do this right now.’ But here I am, I turned 50 this year.

“It takes some people longer to get to that place. And it took me that time. I’m getting wonderful advice and I have a lot of great women in my life.”

The pair also sent on-air congratulations to Ricky Martin and husband Jwan Yosef, who announced the birth of their baby daughter.

Cohen quipped: “All the gays are having babies!”
