The Chase star Paul Sinha engaged to boyfriend
The Chase star Paul Sinha has announced that he is engaged.
The keen quizzer, who has appeared on the ITV daytime game show since 2011, casually revealed he had popped the question to his boyfriend Oliver on January 2.
Sinha tweeted: “I proposed today. He said yes. Thus starts yet another diet.”
Fans congratulated Paul Sinha
The out comedian received a flood of congratulations from friends and fans.
One quipped: “Congratulations! He took the higher offer, then x.”
Another Twitter user added: “Congratulations to you both. Have a wonderful married life together.”
The official account of The Chase also shared the news, adding: “Congratulations Paul! ”
Paul Sinha wasn’t always a fan of marriage
Sinha previously said he was unconvinced by the idea of marriage.
Speaking to GuysLikeU in 2017, he said: “I have a boyfriend called Oliver and we are the power couple in the world of quizzing.
“I don’t want kids, I don’t think my life is conducive to that level of responsibility. Good luck to anyone who wants kids. It’s just not for me and I’ve known that for a long time. Luckily my boyfriend agrees.
“Marriage is not for me either. I am passionately in support of it but it’s not for me.
“I couldn’t put my Hindu parents through the rigmarole of gay marriage, they have been so amazing and so great and so supportive – when I told them I had a boyfriend they were like ‘Thank the lord for that!’”
Sinha has never been in the closet on the show, and spoke about his sexuality in an interview with PinkNews in 2015, but an on-air reference to his sexuality on The Chase in 2017 was widely reported as his public ‘coming out’ moment.
He told PinkNews in 2015: “I am a gay comic. I’m not a camp comic. For a gay comic I do a lot of jokes about sport because sport is one of my biggest obsessions in life.
“Nonetheless, I am a gay comic, and people see you differently. If people don’t like you or don’t find you funny, then they’ll look at you and say ‘All he does is bang on about being gay’.
“If people do think you’re funny they go, ‘Oh it’s nice to see somebody who doesn’t always bang on about being gay.’ They see you through their own personal opinions and prejudices.”
