Queer Eye is filming new episodes in Japan

Netflix is giving Japan a makeover, bringing Queer Eye to the Land of Rising Sun to film four new episodes.
In a statement about the mini-series, titled Queer Eye: We’re in Japan!, Netflix envisions the episodes as a moment of cultural exchange in which the Fab Five will bring their expertise to Japan and, in turn, experience the country’s cuisine, fashion, design, grooming and culture firsthand while working with local tastemakers in Tokyo.
The five hosts—food and wine specialist Antoni Porowski, interior design expert Bobby Berk, grooming master Jonathan Van Ness, culture guru Karamo Brown, and style authority Tan France—landed in the Japanese capital this week.

“We are in Japan filming some episodes, I couldn’t be more excited!” Berk said, filming himself walking down the streets in Tokyo and uploading the video as an Instagram story on Thursday (January 24).
He added: “Tokyo is one of my most favourite cities in the world. the food, the people, the energy of the city is amazing, so I can’t wait for the world to see Japan from the eyes of the Fab Five! Love you all!”
The other Queer Eye stars also used Instagram to communicate the news to their fans.

Van Ness and Porowski shared the plane ride and Porowski, being the foodie he is, also offered a quick overview of the in-flight refreshments—crackers, apple, nuts, chips, and even noodles.
France had already landed and was enjoying the local delicacies, posting a picture of himself surrounded by delicious-looking baked goods. “Been in Japan less than 24 hours and already consumed the equivalent of my body weight in pastries,” he wrote.
He then quipped in a story: “Favourite place I’ve bento in a while,” sharing images of the typical Japanese meal boxes.

Brown also made it safely to Tokyo, but reported having some difficulties finding his way around the city—and blamed Berk for the mishaps. “Bobby’s got us lost around Japan,” he sang in an Instagram story, adding: “It’s alright if any place I’d be lost, it’d be here.”
Japanese fans of Queer Eye expressed their delight at hosting the Fab Five and warmly welcomed them in comments to their Instagram posts.
Netflix recruited four new heroes to appear in Queer Eye
Netflix said that Queer Eye: We’re in Japan! will see the Fab Five forging relationships with four lucky Japanese men and women from different backgrounds and cultures, adding that the new heroes were selected from a wide group of applicants and nominations.
“In just a year since we launched season one, Queer Eye has become a global phenomenon once again and the Fab Five are truly the ambassadors of self-care and compassion that the world needs now more than ever,” David Collins, creator and executive producer of Queer Eye said in a statement.
“Filming in Japan is a wonderful opportunity for us to work with four deserving heroes that will help showcase the incredible traditions and customs of their country,” he added.
The online streaming platform has not disclosed a date for Queer Eye: We’re in Japan!, but it indicated it will be available for streaming in 2019.
Netflix also said that the Japan-based mini-series will be preceded by the release of the third season of Queer Eye, which was filmed in Kansas City, Missouri.
