10 fun first date ideas: Where to go on a first date
First dates can nerve-wracking, exciting, amazing or downright awful. But no matter what the longterm outcome, you want it to be memorable and fun. So, if you’re wondering what to do on a first date, we have you covered.
If you want to avoid the basic date activities like a pub, we have some great first date ideas that will make your day or evening stand out from the rest.
Make your first date special with these 10 unique and fun first date ideas.
1. Go to a comedy club
Laughter brings people together like nothing else. Look up local comedy clubs and organise a night of belly laughs and fun.
2. Take a cooking class
Book a local cooking class. It’s unique, fun and you’ll even learn a new dish out of it. Who knows, if that first date flourishes into something real, the dish you make together might be what you eat for every anniversary.
3. Explore a city
Spend the day exploring a new, vibrant city. You could take tour buses, go to food markets and looks at all the hot spots.
4. Pottery date night class
Think Ghost.
You and your date should get your creative juices flowing through pottery and ceramic painting. Create something from scratch and then paint your own designs on whatever you make… plates, mugs, piggy banks, you name it.
5. Karaoke night
Sing your heart out at karaoke night. This is a brilliant first date idea if you each have a passion for rhythm and aren’t afraid to get up on stage.
6. Museum, gallery or exhibition
Embrace culture, art and history by going to an exhibition, museum or gallery. Walked around the great halls and talking about the beautiful things along the way is a great way to connect with someone on a deep level.
7. Play crazy golf
Every relationship has ups and downs, and crazy obstacles… just like this game. Get loose and have fun by playing mini or crazy golf. Just don’t get too competitive.
8. Boat rides
If you’re a romantic, definitely organise a boat ride. Whether it’s one you row yourselves or one where you can sit and watch the view over dinner, it can be wonderful. But beware… if your date is mind-numbingly boring, you may have to swim to the shore.
9. Outdoor cinema
Outdoor cinemas are so much better than regular ones. For one, you can actually engage in conversation. You park up your car, or go out and sit on the lush grass or chairs that were set, and snack, banter and watch the movie. Even if it’s a poor screening, you’ll still have a great time.
Look up local outdoor cinemas to you.
10. Niche bar or cafe
Depending on your interests, you can look up unique bars and cafes. For example, it might be a cat cafe, a board game bar, or perhaps somewhere that holds trivia nights where you can play pub quizzes. As long as it’s different from your run of the mill place, with some kind of unique quality, it will make the date stand out.
But if you do want a basic first date… pubs, restaurants, bowling (my favourite out of the basic activities) and ordinary cinemas may suffice. We still have some first date tips for you.
At the end of the day, no matter what setting you’re in, the chemistry, attraction and conversation will dictate if you get that second date arranged… and maybe even a kiss goodnight.
Our advice… be yourself and just have fun.
