Troye Sivan dispels break-up rumours with heartfelt anniversary post

Troye Sivan has dispelled rumours that he and his model boyfriend Jacob Bixenman had broken up with a heartfelt tweet celebrating the couple’s three year anniversary.

In the post, Sivan said: “3 years today. luckiest boy alive. love you lots @gwynethpaltbro.”

The tweet was accompanied by a photo of the pair, which was originally posted on Bixenman’s Instagram several months ago.

The pop-star turned heads last month when he posted on Instagram about his new song, which is a collaboration with Lauv.

Troye Sivan’s Instagram post sparked rumours

In the post, he said: “Catch me and my new bf @lauvsongs performing our new SMASH ‘I’m so tired’ on @jimmykimmellive feb 6th.”

In the accompanying photo, Sivan was seen leaning his head on Lauv’s shoulder and linking arms with him.

The post quickly drew attention from eagle-eyed fans who wondered if Sivan was actually declaring his love for Lauv, or if he was just joking.

However, Sivan had hinted that the Instagram post was meant as a joke. He later quote-tweeted a post by Oh Music, which was in Spanish, which said: “Troye Sivan reveals that he has a new boyfriend and is nothing more and nothing less than the talented Lauv.”

Sivan has been in a relationship with Bixenman since 2016, and the pair reportedly live together.

Troye Sivan: ‘We don’t have a queer Taylor Swift’

Sivan has made a name for himself for the queer themes in his music, however, last month, he highlighted the lack of openly LGBT+ music artists in an interview.

In the interview with Will Young and Chris Sweeney on the Homo Sapiens podcast, Sivan said there had been an increase in the number of LGBT+ artists, but that there was still no equivalent of Beyoncé, Rihanna or Taylor Swift.

“I think we’re in a really interesting time in music right now where we are seeing more and more queer artists pop up, but we don’t have a queer Taylor Swift, we don’t have a queer Rihanna, or a queer Beyoncé,” he said.

“Part of me wonders sometimes if I would be more commercially successful if I wasn’t gay or not as ‘in your face gay.’”

Sivan also speculated as to whether he would do better commercially if he wasn’t gay.

“I have a great management team and great label, and I haven’t had this conversation with anyone else in fear because I hate it, hate it, hate it when pop stars sound bitter, or blame any sort of lack of success on anything other than for themselves,” he said.

However, the 23-year-old star said: “Part of me wonders sometimes if I would be more commercially successful if I wasn’t gay or not as ‘in your face gay.’

Still, Sivan, who released his second album Bloom in August 2018, did admit that his current success could “100 percent” just be down to his music.
