Channel 4’s trans documentary The Making of Me praised as ‘beautiful’
The Making of Me was commended by fans for the way it showed trans people (Channel 4 and Twitter)
Channel 4 documentary The Making of Me, which followed nine people as they transition, has been commended for how it portrays transgender people.
The first episode of the three-part show aired on Monday night (February 11), showing how Jackie, Cairo and Vicky and their loved ones have coped with them transitioning over the course of three years.
It prompted an outpouring of gratitude from viewers.
Fans praise Channel 4 for The Making of Me
Despite the programme sparking outrage and offensive comments from some on Twitter, the majority of the reaction has been positive.
Many were simply delighted that Channel 4 had shown the journeys of trans people along with their friends and families.

“In awe of these people,” tweeted one person. “It takes so much courage to realise you are in the wrong body and want to make that big change.
“It’s not an easy decision or process. All kudos to their families for their support. And the vile trolls can bog off!”

The Making of Me taught viewers about trans people
Some people watching The Making of Me said that the show had performed important work in terms of teaching viewers about transgender people and the process of transitioning.
One person said: “Well done channel 4 #themakingofme What an amazing insight into the journey of transitioning & transgender,” while another tweeted: “Thoughtful programming. Makes a refreshing change.”
“Well that was very eye opening and I hope it educated some people about how tough it is to transition,” wrote a different person.

Another commented about Vicky, a security guard from Sheffield who has been repeatedly misgendered because of her voice.
“It’s fascinating how much difference a voice tone makes, psychologically,” they tweeted. “Never crossed me mind before. It’s a massive obstacle.”
One fan wrote: “I really hope this programme changes hearts and minds.

Others were swept away by the trans people involved in the show, with one of these tweeters writing: “Full of respect and admiration at the bravery and courage of those transitioning and equally of the people who love them. Bravo @Channel4.”
