Lesbian parents told having a child is ‘immoral’ in anonymous letter

Lesbian parents in Hull received an anonymous letter telling them that bringing up a child as a same-sex couple is “immoral and wrong.”
Vikki and Stephanie Parkey, who are married, found the unsigned letter posted through their letter box on Friday (February 22), Hull Live reported.
The couple has been living in their property in the outskirts of the East Yorkshire city for six years. Their daughter is 18 months old.
The brief letter, which was typed at a computer, read: “We, the residents, are not happy with same-sex couples living in our area. Especially not when bringing up a child. It is immoral and wrong.
“We suggest you move to a more appropriate area of the City.”
The lesbian parents were shocked to receive the message, as their immediate neighbours have been supportive throughout their IVF and pregnancy.
“We’ve lived here at the property for six years and never received anything like this. We just couldn’t believe it. It was very hurtful, but this is just one a**hole, well hopefully, just one a**hole, who is doing this,” Vikki told Hull Live.

Vikki said it was Stephanie who first discovered the letter on Friday morning—she found her crying and when she asked what happened, she showed her the letter.
“When I read it, I instantly became mad more than anything for upsetting my wife and thinking that they have any right to pass judgement on us and most of all that they thought they had a right to even mention my daughter,” Vikki told Hull Live.
She added: “It’s two different emotions really: mad at the bigotry of it all and upset that there was nothing I could do to stop Steph being upset about it.
“We have never had a problem before, but these opinions in this day and age are just not acceptable. Whoever sent it are just cowards really.”
Neighbour speaks out in support of lesbian parents
One of the couple’s neighbours spoke to Hull Live in support of the lesbian parents.
“Vikki and Stephanie are lovely people and they don’t deserve this abuse they have had to endure. I get on well with them both—they have a young daughter who is a similar age to my son and they are great parents,” Harvey Lincoln, who’s lived next door to the couple for three years told the publication.
He added: “Whoever is doing this is not welcome around here and they are the ones who should move.”
