Margot Robbie is literally making a ‘big gay’ movie
Some of her fans may have been waiting for the day that Margot Robbie makes a gay movie. Well now, that time has come… a comedy musical called Big Gay Jamboree, that is. (Sorry, folks).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie has signed on to produce the gay movie under her LuckyChap Entertainment company, which she co-founded with Josey Mcnamara, Sophia Kerr and husband Tom Ackerley.
The publication also revealed that the actor —who was recently nominated for a BAFTA for her performance as Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots —isn’t likely to star in the project.
Margot Robbie’s gay movie: Big Gay Jamboree
Big Gay Jamboree will tell the story of a young woman who awakens one day to find herself inexplicably living in a musical set in the 1940s.
Using her modern sensibilities, she starts to make friends in her setting while trying to figure out a way to get back to the present day.
THR reports that the film will be a mix between The Book of Mormon, the stage musical written by Robert Lopez and South Park‘s Trey Parker and Matt Stone and 1955 classic Oklahoma!
Alethea Jones is on board to direct, while the script has been penned by Marla Mindelle and Jonathan Parks-Ramage.
Before they start on Big Gay Jamboree though, the former will next work with Robbie on the upcoming fantasy-drama Barbie.
Robbie is no stranger to producing. She previously acted as producer on Oscar-winning drama I, Tonya and crime thriller Terminal.
LuckyChap is also behind Suicide Squad spin-off Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which is currently in development.
