Country singer Cameron Hawthorn has come out as gay in a new music video.
The Kansas singer came out on Friday (March 8) as he released the video for single “Dancing in the Living Room.”
The emotional video features footage of couples, gay and straight, tenderly dancing together in the privacy of their own home.

The video culminates in a scene that shows Hawthorn himself going home to his lover, who is revealed to be a man, as the pair dance togerher and embrace.
It features the lyrics: “We do us, and love is love, until we grow old and grey, stayin’ up late and dancing in the living room.”
Speaking to The Advocate, the singer said: “I remember always thinking how special it was to dance freely with my boyfriend in the living room of our apartment — being gay, it’s not as easy to dance as a couple in public together as it is for a straight couple.
“I wanted to express how special that moment is for a couple, when it’s just the two of you in the privacy of your own four walls.”‘

The clip has had a positive reaction on YouTube, with many noting the bravery of coming out in country music, which has few LGBT+ role models and is still often dominated by conservative ideals.
One fan said: “Most people are just looking for permission to be themselves. It takes others to show that no one needs to give you permission.
