Calls for pastor who celebrated Orlando massacre to be banned from Ireland

A petition has been signed almost 5,000 times calling for anti-LGBT+ pastor Steven Anderson to be banned from entering Ireland.
Anderson—a preacher with the Faithful Word Baptist Church in the United States—is due to preach in Dublin on May 26, according to his online schedule.
“Steven Anderson is a Holocaust-denier, Islamophobe and anti-LGBT+ extremist who is scheduled to preach in Dublin, Ireland on May 26, 2019,” the petition says.

They note that his appearance in the Republic of Ireland could be due to the country’s landslide vote of last year in which they legalised abortion
“This petition is for the people to show that they want Pastor Steven Anderson banned from entering the Republic of Ireland.”
One person who signed the petition commented: “This man is a clear and present danger to the LGBT community worldwide. He advocate[s] full blown militancy and violence to the LGBT [community].”

Ruairí McKiernan, founder of Irish youth website SpunOut, shared the petition on Twitter and asked people to sign, saying: “He’s a Holocaust-denier who has proposed extermination of LGBT+ people. We rightly make a fuss when Islamic fundamentalists seek to radicalise people in Ireland & this should be no different.”
If the Irish government takes action and bans Anderson from entering the country, they would not be the first to take such measures. In 2016, he was banned by the South African government from entering the country.
In the same year, he was banned from travelling through the United Kingdom on his way to Africa.

Anderson has become notorious for his anti-LGBT+ views across the world. He once claimed that gay people should be executed by stoning, claiming: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. That, my friends, is the cure for AIDS. It was right there in the Bible all along.”
Anderson also praised the Orlando nightclub shooting, saying: “There’s 50 less paedophiles in this world, because, you know, these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and paedophiles.”
Anderson also posted a shocking rant to YouTube in the aftermath of George Michael’s death, saying that he was now “burning in hell” and that he was a “wicked, God-hating sodomite.”
In a 2016 sermon, Andereson said that any man who isn’t “faggoty” should be able to demand obedience from his wife.
“Me and my wife are supposed to have the same authority? That doesn’t appeal to me. Being a hetero kind of a guy, I want to be different from my wife.”
He continued: “Women are not wired to want to be in charge and rule over a man. Even the feminist women deep down are like ‘please rule over me’.”
