Emma Bunton reveals the Spice Girls changed lyric to be LGBT-inclusive
Emma Bunton has revealed that the Spice Girls changed a lyric in hit song “2 Become 1” to make it more LGBT-friendly.
Baby Spice talked to Gay Times about how the line “any deal that we endeavour/boys and girls feel good together” turned into “once again if we endeavour/love will bring us back together.”
The lyric change was incorporated into the Spice Girls’ single release, music video and stage performances. Bunton recalled: “We changed the lyrics in a hotel.
“Thank goodness we’re living at a time where everyone is supporting each other so much more now.”

“We were travelling and we were like, ‘Absolutely, it needs to be changed.’ We felt like it needed to be more inclusive.”
She added that she was thankful for her LGBT+ fans, saying: “You notice that support—it’s just incredible.
“Thank goodness we’re living at a time where everyone is supporting each other so much more now. I feel so thankful to them—when I write or when I perform, it feels on such a more open, different level.
“It’s so much more inclusive and special.”
Spice Girls to tour following lesbian sex claim
Last month, ahead of the Spice Girls’ UK tour, Geri Halliwell rejected Mel B’s claim that the pair had a sexual encounter, calling it “disappointing.”
The denial came after it emerged that Mel B implied she had sex with Halliwell—now Geri Horner—during an interview with Piers Morgan for his Life Stories show.
But Horner knocked back the claim that she engaged in a sexual fling with Mel B at the height of the Spice Girls’ fame.
In a statement given to the MailOnline, a spokesperson said: “It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumours again, especially on Mother’s Day of all days.
“Geri loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria. She would like [the fans] to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.”
The statement continued: “Moving forward, Geri can’t wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone, and make some new memories.”
When she was interviewed by Morgan, Mel B said that “hopefully when Geri gets asked that, which hopefully she will after this, she won’t deny it.”
“Because it was just a fun thing,” added Mel B.
She said the sexual incident with Halliwell happened only “one time.”
In 2014, she revealed that she had a four-year relationship with a woman before meeting her husband.
She told The Guardian: “I did have a four-year relationship with a woman. But I’ve been very happily married for seven years to a penis. Ha ha! An amazing guy.
“I’ve definitely not been shy or been one to hold back. If I wanted to try something, I did. I had a girlfriend. So what?”
