Gender reveal disaster leads to four being charged by police

Four people have been charged by police over a gender reveal party in Australia.
The assigned gender of the unborn child was revealed earlier this month in Sydney through a burnout, according to The West Australian.
An unnamed man spun the wheels of his car in the suburban cul-de-sac of Silverdale until blue smoke poured from the vehicle.

He then performed doughnuts, driving in circles as the entire street was covered in ‘gendered’ fog.
The car has since been confiscated by police, who have also reportedly charged the four people who planned the gender reveal. This includes the driver, two of his friends and the baby’s grandmother.
Two charges of “aggravated burnout” have reportedly been filed against the driver.

All four of the people who were charged are set to face court in May.
Speaking to 7NEWS, Chief Inspector Stephen Blair criticised the fact that one person stood close to the car so they could capture a better shot of the gender reveal.
Blair said: “He was invisible (with) the amount of smoke that was generated from the screeching of the tyres.”
Gender reveal parties have a history of ending badly
Gender reveal parties, which are usually binary affairs that rely on gender stereotypes, sometimes end in disaster.
In April 2017, a gender reveal party sparked a wildfire in Arizona which required around 800 firefighters and $8.2 million to extinguish it.
Hundreds of people had to evacuate their homes during the week-long 47,000-acre ‘Sawmill Fire’ caused by border patrol agent Dennis Dickey.

The fire was dubbed “peak straight white nonsense” in a wave of online ridicule after authorities released a video of the explosion.
It showed Dickey shooting a target decorated with the words “boy” and “girl” and containing a legal explosive substance called tannerite.
“Start packing up,” the person filming the video could be heard shouting as fire quickly spreads over the dry patch of grass.
And earlier this year, US chain Villa Italian Kitchen was mocked for launching a gender reveal lasagna—a $139.99 dish that is coloured blue or pink under its top layer.
The concept was torn apart online, with people dubbing the idea “straight nonsense.”
