Woman hit in head by glass in Dublin gay bar
A woman threw a glass at a man in Dublin gay bar The George after he made fun of her for being straight—however, she missed her target and mistakenly hit another woman in the head.
Paula Flood “lashed out” at the man in The George when he insulted her for being straight in a gay bar, according to the Irish Independent.
The pair reportedly had an altercation in the Dublin bar in February of 2015. He started to walk away and she threw a glass after him.
The glass hit another woman in the head and she was taken to hospital
The glass ended up hitting another woman in the head who then fell to the ground and lost consciousness. She was taken to St James’s Hospital in Dublin afterwards.
Paula Flood went before Dublin District Court this week where Judge Michael Walsh said it was a “nasty, unprovoked attack.” Flood has been ordered to take part in a restorative justice programme.
“Flood was antagonised by another individual for being a straight individual in a gay bar.”

She admitted to the assault in court and to using a glass as a weapon in the dispute.
The 50-year-old is a retired nurse and her defence solicitor said she was “relatively intoxicated” when she threw the glass at the man.
He also said that she was “very remorseful” for her actions on the night in 2015.
Victim said she had concussion for weeks after the attack in Dublin and that she became forgetful
In a victim impact statement, the woman who was injured when she was hit in the head with the glass said she had concussion for weeks after the incident.
She said the concussion made it difficult to concentrate at work and she became forgetful.
The woman also said the incident was extremely distressing and that she had to cut down on social events afterwards. She returned to The George on one occasion later on but started crying and had to leave. She said she now hates having people behind her in public places and she has to sit with her back to the wall.
The incident took place in February 2015, just three months before Ireland voted overwhelmingly in favour of legalising same-sex marriage.
The George is one of the country’s most popular gay bars.
