Whitney Houston’s alleged lover Robyn Crawford to release tell-all memoir
Robyn Crawford has announced a tell-all memoir about her life with the late singer Whitney Houston.
The “I Will Always Love You” singer faced years of rumours about her relationship with lifelong friend and executive assistant Robyn Crawford.
The pair always denied the rumours before Houston’s death in 2012, but seven years on, Crawford has announced that she is penning a memoir about her life with the singer.
The memoir, titled A Song for You, is set to be published by Penguin Random House in November.
Robyn Crawford now lives with wife and children
According to her bio on the publisher’s website, Crawford now “lives in New Jersey with her wife and children.”
A statement from Penguin Random House said: “Robyn Crawford and Whitney Houston were inseparable friends and collaborators. This is the poignant inside story of their life together.
“Whitney Houston is as big a superstar as the music business has ever known. She exploded on the scene in 1985 with her debut album and spent the next two decades dominating the charts and capturing the hearts of fans around the world.
“One person was there by her side through it all.
“Since Whitney’s death in 2012, that trusted and loyal friend, Robyn Crawford, has stayed out of the limelight and held the great joys, wild adventures, and hard truths of her life with Whitney close to her heart.
“In A Song for You, Robyn breaks her silence to share the moving and often complicated story of her life and relationship with Whitney.”
Robyn Crawford to ‘set the record straight’ over Whitney Houston relationship
The release adds: “With warmth, candor, and an impressive recall of detail, Robyn gives readers insight into Whitney’s life and career.
“She traces the years from when she and Whitney first met as teenagers in the 1980s to the recording of Whitney’s first album and the infinite success that followed. From countless sold-out world tours to her epic rendition of the US national anthem to the set of The Bodyguard, her tempestuous marriage, and the birth of her only child, Robyn was there.
“Deeply personal and heartfelt, A Song for You is the vital, honest, and previously untold story that provides an understanding of the complex life of Whitney Houston.
“Finally, the person who knew her best sets the record straight.”
Houston had one daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, via her tumultuous relationship with R&B singer Bobby Brown.
Bobby Brown, who faced allegations of violence towards his ex-wife, previously addressed rumours of a relationship between Houston and Crawford.
In 2016, he told US Weekly that Houston was bisexual, adding: “I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney’s life [by others], Whitney would still be alive today.”
“I know,” Brown said of the singer’s sexuality. “We were married for 14 years. There are some things we talked about that were personal to us.”
2017 documentary Whitney: Can I Be Me saw others close to the singer, including agent Nicole David, speak up about her sexuality.
Director Kevin Macdonald told People: “I hope the film expresses what I think is the truth… that they were romantically involved. As a teen, Whitney ran from her mother’s house into the arms of Robyn.”
Following her daughter’s death, Houston’s mother Cissy Houston told Oprah Winfrey that she would “absolutely” have had a problem with her daughter being gay.
