Antoni Porowski on Queer Eye Japan: ‘It’s a full-on snot fest’

Antoni Porowski has teased that the upcoming Queer Eye: We’re in Japan! contains some of the Fab Five’s most emotional moments to date.
The hit Netflix series will return later this year with four special episodes set in Japan, which Porowski has said are among the best yet.
“I think you’re gonna fall in love with the heroes again,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

“We thought we were going to be so different going in, at least I did. There are a lot of cultural differences in how we express love and it’s really interesting to navigate.
“At the end of the day everyone needs to be told that they are worthy. Everyone deserves love and everyone needs to show their love to at least one other person in their life.”

In a separate chat with Access, the food and wine expert admitted that he and the rest of the Fab Five were initially hesitant to film in Japan because of the language barrier.
“Some of them only spoke Japanese, so we had to work with a translator. I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was, but there was like this forced intimacy,” he said.
“You see them get emotional and they haven’t cried in years. So we’re crying too and it turns into a full-on snot fest.”

Reflecting on the third season of the show, Porowski said that one particular makeover “really impacted” him: that of Jess Guilbeaux.
“I was really touched by Jess’ episode,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
“To see someone who at the beginning of the week didn’t feel like she deserved these nice things, but by the end of it was like: ‘Yeah, I am worthy of that love. I may not have gotten it from who I should have gotten it from, or expected it from—my biological family—but I got it from other people.’ What’s more fulfilling than that?”

Guilbeaux was disowned by her parents after coming out as a lesbian aged 16. She revealed in her episode that she’d recently been forced to drop out of college due to debt.
After the season debuted in March, a fan set up a fundraiser which raised more than $100,000 to help her return to education.
Queer Eye: We’re In Japan! details emerge
Netflix is yet to announce a release date for the new season, but that hasn’t stopped the cast from sharing details on social media.
Tan France—the series’ fashion expert—shared a selfie with model Kiko Mizuhara, who he called “the newest addition to the Fab Five crew.”
Mizuhara will serve as “Japan ambassador” in all four episodes.
Grooming guru Jonathan Van Ness revealed that the cast celebrated their first anniversary while filming in Tokyo on February 8.
“Mischievous lil boys but loving these ones today,” he wrote.
