LEGO builds world’s tiniest Pride parade

LEGO has built what could be the world’s smallest Pride parade in New York as the city hosts World Pride.
The mini parade was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots this Pride month, and can be found at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester in their MINILAND installation.
MINILAND is an interactive replica of New York City built with more than 1.5million LEGO bricks, and the display is changed throughout the year to reflect the seasons and celebrations in the city.
The Pride parade is in MINILAND’s Times Square and has two floats, one that reads “Pride” and another that reads “love,” and a Stonewall 50 mosaic above the procession.
The tiny attendees are dressed in colourful costumes, from clowns to unicorns, and wave little Pride flags.

LEGO wants to include every child with its Pride display
Nicholas Hurst, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s marketing executive, told NBC New York that the parade was part of the organisation’s commitment to including every child.
He said: “Playing is a universal way for every child and family to connect.
“LEGOLAND Discovery Center really makes sure all kids can come and not have any kind of stigma or judgement, and just be there to have a great time with their family and friends.”
Willis Reifsnyder, whose job title is “master model builder,” also told NBC New York: “There are approximately 60,000 different Lego elements in different shapes, in different sizes and colors.
“Each one’s unique, is important and serves a purpose… to create such vibrant art.”
The installation took 25 hours to create from start to finish, including coming up with the concept, sketching, creating a digital version and then finally constructing the display.
The Stonewall 50 mosaic and parade are made up of a total of 1,500 LEGO bricks.
