Donald Trump might not know his gay spokesperson is gay
Judd Deere said he would be willing to have “the conversation” with Donald Trump.
US President Donald Trump’s gay deputy press secretary who often represents him on LGBT+ issues said that the president may not actually know how he identifies, according to BuzzFeed.
Judd Deere is a gay Republican who has represented the US leader on many issues including LGBT+ rights, and even helped him to release his Pride statement.
He said in the interview that the president “doesn’t treat me any differently because I’m gay.”
However, he also admitted that he is not sure whether Trump knows that he identifies as gay, although they work closely together multiple times per week.
He said: “If he asked me, sure, I’d have the conversation with him.”
“It’s not something I hide,” he continued.“[But] I don’t walk into the White House every day and say, ‘I’m Judd Deere; I’m gay.’”
Deere said that he shares his private life with colleagues in the White House, and that “individuals that I work with in this building don’t treat me any differently because I’m gay.”

Gay press secretary said refusing service to LGBT+ people is “fine”
The Trump spokesperson is adamant that the administration is not anti-LGBT+, and said the fact that he could be promoted shows that the president likes LGBT+ people.
He is supportive of the trans military ban, telling BuzzFeed that trans people “erode military readiness,” and also opposes the Equality Act which he described as “filled with poison pills.”
Deere thinks that refusing service to LGBT+ people on religious grounds is “fine,” for example a Christian baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple.
He said: “Yeah, that’s fine. I’ll just go find another cake shop that will.”
Deere worked under former head White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who has previously said that in cases like the bakery’s, shops should be allowed to display signs showing that they refuse service to LGBT+ people.
