Why you need to get on board with meggings
From jeggings to treggings, the ubiquitous leggings have been successfully reinventing themselves as a fashion staple for decades.
The latest update: meggings. That’s short for men’s leggings, in case you were wondering.
And with celebs like Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Cristiano Ronaldo all sporting the fashion-forward garment, it might be time to invest in a pair yourself. But before you strut your stuff, there’s a few do’s and don’ts you need to know about wearing meggings.
Do: Be bold
Let’s face it, no one wears meggings to blend in. And if you do, you’re probably not doing a very good job at it. Don’t be afraid to get adventurous with your look — try bold patterns and colours. But remember, don’t overdo it. If you go bold down below, keep it simple on top.
Don’t: Go commando
There’s no escaping the inevitable crotch conundrum; after all, meggings don’t leave much to the imagination. But a pair of tight-fitting underwear goes a long way. If Spider-Man can maintain his dignity, so can you.
Do: Get comfy
Whoever said fashion hurts didn’t stick around long enough for the celebrity socks-and-sandals trend. Meggings may be tight but they don’t need to cause bodily harm. Pick a pair that look sexy and feel snug.
Don’t: Go give an eyeful
They may be skintight, but meggings aren’t transparent. Or at least they shouldn’t be. If you really want to flaunt your underwear you’d be better investing in a pair of tights.
Do: Be versatile
Whether you’re going to a festival, hitting the gym, or lazying about the house, there’s a pair of meggings for practically every occasion. Though you might want to double-check your dress code at work before rocking up on Monday morning in your latest leopard print.
Don’t: Get too clingy
With meggings, you’re emphasising your legs. Ditch that XS slim-fit tee and opt for something a little looser on top — oversized sweater, loose-fit crop top, or even a puffer jacket.
