George Michael’s ex Fadi Fawaz arrested for smashing late singer’s home
George Michael’s ex Fadi Fawaz has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage after allegedly trashing the late singer’s north London mansion.
Fawaz, 46, was arrested on Tuesday (July 23) after neighbours saw him standing topless on the roof. They told The Sun they heard loud smashing noises inside the building and saw water gushing out of the front door.
One neighbour said: “The damage inside the house is really bad. I’ve never seen anything like it. Every fixture and fitting, every door and window, everything George left in there – it’s all completely destroyed.
He must have been systematically smashing the place up for a long time
“Even the toilets and sinks have been smashed. There’s major damage to the walls and even the ceilings. This can’t have happened in just one night, he must have been systematically smashing the place up for a long time.”
Officers said the house had suffered “extensive damage.” A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade confirmed they were called to the address at 8.24pm to help clear up leaking water.
Police took the former hairdresser into custody in handcuffs. Metro reported Fawaz shouting: “I am not going there, I am not going there, I am staying here, I want to stay here.”
Fawaz was released under investigation the following day.
George Michael’s will contested
Fawaz had been in a relationship with the Wham! singer from 2012 until his death aged 53 on Christmas Day 2016.
Fawaz was the one who found Michael’s body, and questions were raised about his involvement in the singer’s death until a coroner confirmed it was due to natural causes.
However, Fawaz later claimed that the death was actually a suicide.
He continued living at the £5 million Regent’s Park mansion despite repeated requests to leave by Michael’s family, with whom he has a contentious relationship.
A source close to the family told The Sun, “Fadi is being a real pain about all this. He has refused to leave despite several letters and requests in the last 18 months. He is blanking them out and it appears he now has squatters rights.”
Last month it emerged Fawaz had been left out of Michael’s £97.6 million will. Michael’s sisters Melanie and Yioda will get an equal share of all the singer’s major assets, including his two London homes.
Fawaz was reportedly “heartbroken” at being cut out of the fortune and is now contesting the will.
