America’s Got Talent judge Julianne Hough reveals she is ‘not straight’
America’s Got Talent judge Julianne Hough has revealed that she is “not straight.”
The professional dancer and reality TV judge spoke about coming out to her now-husband, professional hockey player Brooks Laich, in an interview with Women’s Health.
Julianne Hough: I’m not straight
She explained: “I was connecting to the woman inside that doesn’t need anything, versus the little girl that looked to him to protect me.
“I was like, ‘Is he going to love this version of me?’ But the more I dropped into my most authentic self, the more attracted he was to me.”
“I [told him], ‘You know I’m not straight, right?’ And he was like, ‘I’m sorry what?’ I was like, ‘I’m not. But I choose to be with you.’”
She added: “I think there’s a safety with my husband now that I’m unpacking all of this, and there’s no fear of voicing things that I’ve been afraid to admit or that I’ve had shame or guilt about because of what I’ve been told or how I was raised.”
Hugh added: “I’ve been de-layering all the survival tactics I’ve built up my whole life. Now, I feel limitless.”
The reality star, who married Laich in 2017, posed nude on the cover of the magazine’s September “Naked Strength” issue.
Derek Hough shows support for sister
Her brother Derek Hough, who is also a judge on reality competition show World of Dance, shared a message of support.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Proud of you @juleshough. A beautiful article about shedding the protective walls that can imprison us.
“A stunning artistic representation capturing the courage of realising your true essence and strength. Unleashing your freedom. ??”
She replied: “Love you so much D for always being my greatest supporter! ❤️❤️❤️”
Hough is a judge on the currently-airing 14th season of America’s got Talent, appearing alongside Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union and Terry Crews.
