Pride: FX making documentary series about battle for LGBT+ rights

FX has announced Pride, a big-budget documentary series about the LGBT+ rights movement.
The US cable network on Tuesday (August 6) announced that it was producing the new series, which will chart progress made on LGBT+ rights over the past 60 years.
Each episode in the six-part series will be helmed by a different queer filmmaker from across the LGBT+ community.

A release explained: “Pride is a six-part documentary series hailing from Christine Vachon’s Killer Films and Refinery29, chronicling the fight for LGBTQ civil rights in America as seen through the lens of our national history and the biggest pop culture and political events.
“Each part directed by a different renowned LGBTQ helmer, Pride is about all of us, and the awesome, heartbreaking and heroic story surrounding the LGBTQ fight for freedom over the last 60 years in America.
“Pride is executive produced by Vachon and Sydney Foos of Killer Films and Refinery29’s Amy Emmerich, Stone Roberts and Alex Stapleton.”
FX has won awards for LGBT+ shows
The announcement came as part of a tranche of documentary commissions from the network, which is also home to acclaimed queer ballroom drama series Pose.
It has also featured LGBT+ storylines extensively through Ryan Murphy projects American Horror Story and American Crime Story.

Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX, said in a release: “FX has long sought to give artists a platform to showcase their individual, uncompromising vision and its new docuseries and features are an opportunity to extend that ambition in our collaboration with non-fiction talent.”
He added: “We are now honoured to partner with these new teams to create docuseries and features that will join FX’s legacy of fearless and groundbreaking programming.”
