Straight Pride plans blocked by California city officials

The city of Modesto, California has refused permission for a ‘Straight Pride’ event.
On Friday (August 9), Modesto city council rejected a request from a group calling itself the National Straight Pride Coalition to hold a rally on August 24.
The council noted that the group had no liability insurance and could not rent a city park for the event.
Straight Pride event blocked over insurance dispute
In a statement, the city of Modesto said: “The city has been informed that the certificate of liability insurance for the proposed event has been voided. Liability insurance is a requirement for renting many city facilities.”
The decision was celebrated by campaigners who had questioned the group’s links to white supremacists, branding it a “thinly veiled hate organisation.”
Modesto is 90 miles outside of San Francisco, and has around 215,000 residents.
Local efforts to resist the event were partly led by Matthew Mason, the estranged gay son of Straight Pride organiser Mylinda Mason.

He said: “I am in a unique place to call her out for where she’s coming from, which is white supremacy, and I did not feel like I had the right to stay silent.
“Mylinda constantly talks about revisionist history, but really her style of history is the one that’s revisionist.”
Mason described the event as “white supremacy masquerading as straight pride.”
In response, his estranged mother claimed that it is “very typical” for “homosexuals in general pull away from family and friends at some point.”
Plans for the event had ignited lively scenes at city council meetings, with residents heckling National Straight Pride Coalition during an exchange last Wednesday (August 7).
Grundmann was mocked after accidentally claiming during the meeting: “We haven’t done anything. We’re a totally peaceful, racist group.”
Organisers claim to be at ‘war’ with LGBT+ people
The National Straight Pride Coalition says its goals are “preventing the current and future generations of all races and colours from being destroyed by the inherent malevolence of the Homosexual Movement.”
The group’s website describes itself as at “war” with LGBT+ people, explaining: “The enemies of the cross, for the purpose of establishing their own replacement belief system of Satanic Humanism as the dominant cultural and societal paradigm of an enslaved humanity, desire the total destruction of Christianity.
“Specifically, the destruction of the cultural and social institutions founded upon it including the natural nuclear family, the sovereign nation state; the inherent recognition of Christian value, wonder, and awesomeness of human life, and the most fundamental concepts of human identity including masculinity and femininity.”
