To the surprise of absolutely nobody, right-wing Trump-supporting pastor Franklin Graham slams schools teaching LGBT+ history
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Trump-supporting right-wing pastor Franklin Graham has slammed a new state law which requires schools to teach about LGBT+ history.
In January, the state of New Jersey introduced a new law requiring schools to teach about the societal contributions of historical LGBT+ people.
Bill S1569 requires that teachers “accurately portray [the] political, economic, and social contributions of persons with disabilities and LGBT people” to middle and high school students, starting in 2020.
It was the second bill of its kind in the country, after California. Earlier this month a bill was signed into law in Illinois requiring schools to teach LGBT+ inclusive history.
Alfonso Cirulli, the mayor of Barnegat Township in New Jersey, is opposing the new law and Graham appeared on the Todd Starnes radio programme to praise the mayor, saying he stands behind him “100 per cent” and that schools have no right “to teach children something that is an affront to God”.
“The mayor is absolutely right,” Graham continued.
“This is an affront to God and I don’t believe that the schools have a right to teach our children something that is an affront to God.
“So the mayor is absolutely right and I back him 100 per cent. God made us and created us, he made us make and female so that we can carry on the population, so that we have children and that we would increase, and homosexuality goes against God’s plan for the human race.”
The Christian evangelist and missionary is also urging New Jersey parents to pull their children out of public schools and march on the state capitol to demand the law be repealed.
He said: “If the churches would just get behind this and begin to speak out, it would make a big difference.
“We’re the majority and we’re having the minority push something down our throats that we don’t accept and we need to speak out and fight against this.”
Interesting choice of words.
Franklin Graham really doesn’t like the gays.
Graham, who preached at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in January 2017, isn’t known for mincing his words when it comes to the LGBT+ community.
In April this year, he hit out at Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg, telling the out and proud gay man that he was face “eternal damnation” unless he “repents”.
Writing in a Facebook post, he said: “God’s word defines homosexuality as sin, something to be repentant of, not something to be flaunted, praised or politicised.
“The Bible defines marriage as between a man and a woman – not two men, not two women.
“The core of the Christian faith is believing and following Jesus Christ, who God sent to be the saviour of the world – to save us from in, to save us from hell, to save us from eternal damnation.”
