A US Christian group is mailing ‘homophobic and transphobic’ leaflets to UK homes
An American Christian fundamentalist group has targeted a UK town by mailing and distributing anti-LGBT+ leaflets.
Birmingham, in the West Midlands, became the stage of a fierce debate over whether LGBT+ lives and topics should be taught in schools this year.
And in the latest controversy, residents woke up to find pamphlets from a queerphobic group called Tradition, Family, Property, pushed through their letterboxes, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Titled Gender Theory or 21st Century Totalitarianism?, the leaflet dubbed “gender theory – the delirious ideology claiming everyone can fancy themselves as man, woman, neither or both at the same”.
Moreover, it goes onto target schools that have introduced LGBT-positive teaching curriculums.
It read: “Sophisticated activists are already at work to impose their anti-Christian and anti-God views on your children at school.”
The pamphlet bizarrely includes a photograph of Santa Claus alongside a photograph of a drag queen story-time session.
“The leaflet is going straight into the cat litter.”
Furthermore, several locals have expressed their shock at the leaflets, which were also reportedly handed-out in the Bull Ring Shopping Centre.
Janique James, 23, a singer from Yardley, received a flyer on Tuesday, August 20.
She told Birmingham Mail: “This leaflet is disgusting. It is wrong a transphobic ‘Catholic’ hate group is posting this rubbish through my letterbox.
“Surely they have better things to do.
“God knows where it’s come from but I’m not surprised I’ve received it, people have been protesting outside schools against sex education and LGBT+ education in the local area.
“One thing is for sure, the leaflet is going straight into the cat litter. I’ve got no time for homophobia and transphobia.”
In addition, the leaflets call for readers to pay £5 for a softback 64-page booklet.
In it, the booklet will answer questions including: “What is Gender Theory?”, “What is Queer Theory?,” “What is anti-Science Theory?” and “is Gender Theory the result of the eruption of the sexual revolution in 1968?”
Who are Christian group Tradition, Family and Property?
Catholic campaigners founded the group in 1960 in Brazil. The movement has since spread with several bases dotted across the world.
Tradition, Family and Property have operated in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, and South Africa.
But in the US, they operate as The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property.
They frequently advocate against abortion rights and marriage equality.
A Facebook user identified the flyers as from the group. She said: “They are prolific in America protesting against abortion rights and gay marriage.
“It’s the first I’ve heard of them on British turf.”
What is happening in Birmingham?
Months of protests erupted after a Parkfield Community Primary school introduced a pro-LGBT+ teaching program.
As a result, some parents picketed outside the school gates and removed their children from the school in protest against it.
Campaigners argued that primary school children are too young for such material.
While some have argued that pro-LGBT+ education stands in contrast to certain Islamic teachings.
