Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton had the best reaction to anti-LGBT+ protestors at Manchester Pride on Saturday, August 24.
Instead of ignoring the small group of protestors – who were standing in the crowd holding up signs with anti-LGBT+ messages – Cotton jumped off his float, approached the group and waved his rainbow flag at them.
In a video shared by Manchester Evening News, Cotton brushed the rainbow flag off their homophobic signs repeatedly to much applause from the gathered crowd.
Cotton – who plays Sean Tully on the ITV soap – then told the group to “shut up.” Before leaving, Cotton blew a kiss to the small group of protestors.
Afterwards, he jumped back on the float, which he was sharing with other Corrie stars.
Antony Cotton drew praise online for the move.
The star drew praise on social media for the move. One Twitter user simply wrote: “Not all heroes wear capes @antonycotton.”
Meanwhile, actor Sean Chriscole shared the video of Cotton’s run-in with protestors and wrote: “Pride is a stark reminder for me that the man I used to proudly call ‘Dad’ is now one of those stupid anti-Pride protestors (and more). He may not be in that group shown in the video, but he might as well be. Well played @antonycotton.”

This is not the first time Coronation Street actors have made headlines for challenging anti-LGBT+ protesters at Pride.
Coronation Street stars took aim at anti-LGBT+ protestors last year too.
Last year, Cotton and fellow Corrie-star Nicola Thorp took a stand against protesters at the event.
Speaking at last year’s event, Thorp shouted at protesters: “It’s a shame that you felt you needed to show your presence here today. You and your beliefs are not welcome here. You are not welcome to come and judge our sexuality.”
Meanwhile, Cotton jumped off the float and kissed his boyfriend Peter in front of the protesters.
Cotton has starred on Coronation Street since 2003 as gay man Sean Tully and has won a number of awards for playing the character.
