Police enabled Ed Buck to be a predator by ignoring black gay men, victim’s mother claims
Ed Buck got away with his crimes for years because police ignored the stories of black gay men, the mother of one of his victims has said.
The big money Democratic donor and businessman and was arrested earlier this month. He is accused with injecting black gay men with fatal doses of drugs, with investigators claiming he had at least 11 victims.
He allegedly drugged men while unconscious, with some men claiming they woke up to discover that they had been sexually assaulted.
Gemmel Moore’s mother has spoken out against the police investigation into Ed Buck.
One of those victims was Gemmel Moore, who was found dead in Buck’s house two years ago. His mother has now spoken out against the police investigation.
“I’m a grieving mother, but they treated us like criminals,” LaTisha Nixon told the Guardian.
She also said that lives could have been saved if her son’s death had been taken seriously by law enforcement officials when he died two years ago.
Because they were black gay men, the county didn’t care to listen to their stories. The county didn’t care to follow up.
Nixon specifically mentioned LA county district attorney Jackie Lacey, and said she just wanted her to “do her job”.
“We gave her all of the evidence. I don’t know if she ignored it because it was black gay men, or because it was gay men period. I got the runaround.”
Meanwhile, attorney for Moore’s family, Hussain Turk said: “Because they were black gay men, the county didn’t care to listen to their stories. The county didn’t care to follow up.”
Democratic donor was arrested earlier this month.
Another man, Timothy Dean, died of an overdose at Buck’s home in January of this year. Earlier this month, another victim overdosed in his home but survived, which led to Buck’s eventual arrest.
He has been charged with one felony count each of battery causing serious injury, administering methamphetamine and maintaining a drug house.
In a statement, the District Attorney’s office said: “On September 11, Buck is accused of injecting the victim with methamphetamine at the defendant’s apartment in the 1200 block of Laurel Avenue in West Hollywood.
“The man suffered an overdose but survived… The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.”
