The top ten same-sex wedding songs in 2019 have been revealed by analysing Spotify playlists and they’re as fabulous and you’d expect.
The top spot was taken by Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)’, which has been streamed on Spotify 371 million times.
Eventopedia gathered thousands of songs from playlists mentioning the terms “gay wedding 2019” and “LGBT wedding” to find the most popular.
The top ten same-sex wedding songs in 2019 were:
- ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)’ by Whitney Houston
- ‘Dancing Queen’ by ABBA
- ‘It’s Raining Men’ by The Weather Girls
- ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson
- ‘Dreams’ by Fleetwood Mac
- ‘September’ by Earth, Wind & Fire
- ‘Best of My Love’ by The Emotions
- ‘Born This Way’ by Lady Gaga
- ‘I’m Coming Out’ by Diana Ross

The average release date for same-sex wedding songs was 1988, while songs for weddings overall were released on average in 2003. Same-sex wedding songs also had a faster tempo and lasted longer than music for other weddings.
The top songs for non-LGBT+ weddings included ‘All of Me’ by John Legend, ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ by James Arthur and and ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri.
Eventopedia founder Toby Heelis said: “Weddings are often the most significant event of people’s lives, and having the right music to accompany it is just as important.
“The first dance is a defining moment so making sure we choose the perfect soundtrack is paramount, as is ensuring the balance between being emotional and not being overly cringey.”
It was announced this month that London’s Heaven nightclub has obtained permission from Westminster Council to become a wedding venue.
