Ricky Martin and husband Jwan Yosef are about to become dads for the fourth time
Ricky Martin and his husband Jwan Yosef are about to become dads for the fourth time, the singer has revealed.
Martin made the announcement during an acceptance speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) National Dinner in Washington D.C. on Saturday. He was awarded the HRC National Visibility Award for his advocacy work.
During his emotional speech, Martin thanked his family for their support.
“Jwan, I don’t see you, but my husband Jwan, I love you. My beautiful twins, Valentino and Matteo, they’re also here, I love you with all my heart. You’re my strength, you inspire me every day, you motivate me to keep doing what I’m doing and you guys are amazing kids. You guys are amazing. I love you.
Ricky Martin: ‘We are pregnant’
“Lucia, my baby girl who is not here with us – she stayed at home with grandma – but she’s also the light of my life,” he said.
“And by the way, I have to announce that we are pregnant,” Martin said to applause from the audience.
“I love big families!” he laughed.
The announcement comes after Martin announced the birth of his baby daughter on New Year’s Day this year.
“We are beyond happy to announce that we have become parents to a beautiful and healthy baby girl, Lucia Martin-Yosef,” Martin wrote on Instagram.
And by the way, I have to announce that we are pregnant.
“It has been a special time for us and we can’t wait to see where this stellar baby will take us.
“Both her beautiful brothers and me and Jwan have fallen in love with Lucia,” he continued.
Martin had his twin boys via a surrogate in 2008 and later revealed that becoming a father prompted him to come out.
Speaking to The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, he said: “I had my kids, and then I said: ‘I have to come out – I mean, am I going to lie to these beautiful kids?’”
Martin came out publicly in 2010
Martin came out publicly in a letter in 2010 following years of speculation from the media about his sexuality.
He added: “I always say this, I wish I could come out again. Because it felt amazing. That moment when I wrote the letter and I posted it on Twitter, and I pressed send.
“The freedom, the feeling of liberation was so powerful, that’s what I mean by saying I wish I could come out again because it just felt amazing.
“And then after that, people coming to me and saying thank you so much for coming out. Because of you I understand my father better. I understand my sister better.
“So it’s an important thing to do.”
