Ruby Rose really doesn’t care if you don’t think she’s queer enough to play Batwoman

Model and actor Ruby Rose doesn’t care that people think she isn’t queer enough to play Batwoman.
The Orange Is the New Black star deleted her Twitter account last year after she faced widespread criticism when she was cast as Batwoman in the CW’s superhero show.
Rose addressed the controversy this week in an interview for Buzzfeed’s AM to DM. When asked by co-host Alex Berg about the criticism that she wasn’t “gay enough or queer enough” to play the role, she said she “didn’t really care” because she “worked really hard to get the role”.

“I really wanted to do the role. It’s a dream role.
“I’ve said it before, but I’m not going to be on my deathbed wishing that people on the internet liked me more,” she continued.
She also said that she understands that people have very specific ideas of what their heroes will look like in a film or television adaptation.

When her casting was announced in August 2018, Rose faced backlash from people online, with many listing actresses they would have preferred to see play Batwoman.
The actor deleted her Twitter following backlash to her casting.
She initially responded to the “hurtful” criticism on Twitter, writing: “I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.
“When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable. When we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey I love a challenge x.”
She later deleted her Twitter account entirely, saying she was looking forward to getting more than four hours sleep. She told fans they could reach her on her “Bat Phone”.
Last weekend, Rose revealed that she had a stunt accident that left her with two herniated discs that almost severed her spinal cord. She had to have emergency surgery on her neck after the incident.
She had the footage recorded and posted it on Instagram, but warned that it isn’t for the squeamish.
She joked: “To anyone asking why I let them video it… Did you not watch that Greys anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient?? Also I wanted to see what happens when we go under.”
