Pose creator Ryan Murphy makes his Netflix original debut with hotly anticipated series The Politician – and there’s some truly iconic gay moments. Warning: spoilers ahead.
Murphy has a record of prolific TV shows – from Glee to American Horror Story – so there was no surprise at the buzz surrounding the release of his newest series The Politician.
Murphy’s comedy-drama depicts the election for student-body president at an affluent Californian high school full of queer, well-dressed and ambitious students.
The cast includes Ben Platt, Gwenyth Paltrow and Jessica Lange, and there’s some scenes to remember.

1. Everything Jessica Lange said, did or touched.
The American Horror Story star is no stranger to Murphy’s direction or shows but they seem to be a match made in heaven.
In The Politician, Lange embodies the life of Dusty Jackson, Infinity’s manipulative grandmother, and delivers everything we would expect from a dark comedy.
She also dresses to impress the gays – head to toe in leopard print and a cigarette in hand.
2. Astrid fakes her own kidnapping.
It’s as hilarious as it sounds.

Serving us Amy Dunne from Gone Girl, Astrid runs away to New York and fakes her very own kidnapping.
It’s as outrageous, over the top and ridiculous as you want from a Ryan Murphy series, but Boynton’s evil stare and fabulous looks make it more enjoyable than ever.
Astrid gives us the Quinn Fabray energy we needed after Glee ended.
3. Gwyneth Paltrow.
Not needing an introduction, Gwyneth Paltrow is back and luckily for us it’s a longer feature than her character in Glee.

In The Politician, she plays Payton’s loving adoptive mother Georgina Hobart and delivers a perfect new-money housewife caricature.
Most iconically in the show, after leaving her husband we follow Paltrow’s new quest for romance but this time she’s winking at a woman…
Whether it’s her outfits or her lesbian relationship, we couldn’t keep our eyes off Paltrow.
4. The Politician‘s fashion.
This show serves looks that everyone is obsessed with!

In a nutshell, it delivers the late nineties, preppy, ice-cream-coloured Clueless aesthetic.
Most notable fashion moments are Astrid’s green and white in her tennis outfit, paired with perspex orange sunnies.
5. Butt Munch.
The most outrageous moment in The Politician deservingly goes to Jessica Lange’s speech about gay men.
“I don’t understand why calling that gay man a butt-munch was such a scandal,” she says. “That’s what gays do: munch butts and celebrate Halloween.”
So scandalous, so perfect.
