Fans hoping to see a girlfriend for Ruby Rose’s Batwoman are going to be disappointed
LGBT+ Batwoman fans may be excited to see the show’s lesbian heroine in a relationship with a woman, but that won’t be happening just yet, Ruby Rose has revealed.
Rose – who plays Batwoman in The CW’s new series and is openly gay herself – has told fans that they will have to wait a while to see the character in a relationship.
“I don’t think that’s her priority right at this minute,” Rose told the New Zealand Herald.
“She has just come into herself. She’s just returned to Gotham. She has so much trauma going on. She’s lost her mom, she’s lost her sister, she’s trying to discover what she wants to do in her life.”
“She was kicked out of the military so it’s like she’s starting from square one, and then when she discovers a purpose and that purpose is to become Batwoman.”
Ruby Rose would like to see Batwoman experience ‘some happiness’.
However, Rose did admit that she is eager to see her character experience “some happiness”. She told the show’s writer she would like Kate Kane to be “in love”.
“Caroline was like, ‘Yeah, it doesn’t always work out that way for superheroes or for people who have to keep this secret identity,’ but we’ll see.”
The CW’s new Batwoman series is set to debut on the network on Monday, October 6.

When Rose was announced to be playing the character in August 2018, she faced online backlash, with many listing actresses they would have preferred to have gotten the part.
She initially responded to the criticism on Twitter, writing: “I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.
“When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable. When we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey I love a challenge x.”
She recently revealed that she had a stunt accident which almost severed her spinal cord.
Rose later deleted her Twitter account completely following extended online backlash.
She recently revealed that she had a stunt accident that left her with two herniated discs that almost severed her spinal cord. She had to have emergency surgery on her neck after the incident.
She had the footage recorded and posted it on Instagram, but warned that it isn’t for the squeamish.
She joked: “To anyone asking why I let them video it… Did you not watch that Greys anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient?? Also I wanted to see what happens when we go under.”
