Russian man drops lawsuit against Apple after claiming iPhone turned him gay and made him leave his girlfriend
A Russian man has abandoned his lawsuit against Apple, after claiming that his iPhone turned him gay and was responsible for his decision to leave his girlfriend.
The man, named in court documents as D.E. Razumilov, had claimed in a lawsuit earlier this month that he was turned gay after being sent coins in an LGBT-themed cryptocurrency.
However, his lawyer Sapizhat Gusnieva said on Thursday that the claim would be abandoned, as he “no longer wants to continue with the case”.
She claimed that Razumilov had faced abuse from “haters” when “Apple supporters began to write to him,” according to AFP.
Russian iPhone user had sought damages for ‘moral suffering and harm to mental health’.
Razumilov had originally been seeking 1 million rubles (£12,195) in damages from Apple for “moral suffering and harm to mental health”, accusing the tech giant of “manipulatively pushing [him] toward homosexuality”.
In his complaint, the man had claimed: “I thought… how can I judge something without trying it? And decided to try same-sex relationships.
“I can say after the passage of two months that I’m mired in intimacy with a member of my own sex and can’t get out.
“I have a steady boyfriend and I don’t know how to explain it to my parents.
“After receiving the aforementioned message, my life has changed for the worse and will never be normal again.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook said being gay is ‘God’s greatest gift’.
Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that being gay was “God’s greatest gift” to him.
Asked if he was proud to be gay in an interview with CNN, Cook said: “I’m very proud of it. I’m very proud of it, yes, absolutely.”
Cook also previously said that LGBT+ people were “a gift to the world, a unique and special gift, just the way you are”.
