Don’t get your hopes up about Captain Marvel and Valkyrie getting together anytime soon, Thor director warns
It is the major question on the minds of many Marvel fans – will Valkyrie and Captain Marvel get together?
Seemingly not – at least not right now, the director of Thor: Love and Thunder has revealed.
Film director Taika Waititi has seen all the talk online about the female superheroes, but he wants to avoid giving the fans too much of what they want.
“The thing is, I think it’s dangerous for people to say too much about what they want with Marvel, because then they will tend to go the other way,” Waititi told Wired.
He continued: “You want to listen to the fans to a point. But also you don’t want to have a completely fan-made film because then it doesn’t feel like there’s any point. You want to have people surprised.”
Waititi also revealed that Thor: Love and Thunder will be “bigger and louder and more bombastic” than its predecessor.
“It’s only interesting to me if we’re doubling down on how nuts Ragnarok was,” he said.
Fans have been shipping Captain Marvel and Valkyrie for some time.
Waititi’s comments come after heightened speculation from Marvel fans online about the potential for Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson) and Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson) to get together.
That speculation took on a new intensity in July when Thompson confirmed that her character would be visibly queer in the next Thor film, saying she “needs to find her queen”.
The thing is, I think it’s dangerous for people to say too much about what they want with Marvel, because then they will tend to go the other way.
Who her queen will be has not yet been revealed – but that has not stopped eager fans from shipping Valkyrie and Captain Marvel.
The actors have added fuel to the speculation on a number of occasions. Earlier this year they both shared fan art that depicted their characters as a couple.
A seemingly innocuous comment about ‘topping’ lesbians from Brie Larson sent fans wild earlier this month.
The pair also sent fans wild earlier this month at ACE Comic Con when Larson asked Thompson a seemingly innocent question about topping lesbians.
Thompson and Larson were asked by a moderator what they wanted to see next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). An audience member shouted: “I just want to see lesbians.”
Larson then took the microphone and said: “How do I top lesbians?”
Thompson replied: “I’m sure the lesbians could show you, right after this panel.”
