Mariah Carey has officially declared it’s Christmas season in the most Mariah Carey way possible
Mariah Carey has officially usurped Jesus Christ as the spirit of Christmas by announcing it is officially the holiday season today.
The singer, who invented the cultural tradition of the festive season in 1994 with the release of ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, tweeted a video to decree the change.
Carey, dressed as an 80s rock singer for Halloween, decided to lie down in bed at 11:59pm on October 31.
‘It’s time!’: Mariah Carey officially declares it’s the Christmas season.
The clock strikes 12:00am, November 1 on the music icon’s iPhone, zooming out to reveal Carey waking up in red Christmas-themed pyjamas.
Snuggled up in her duvet, she then received a phone call from Santa himself.

Picking up her mobile, she sang down the phone: “It’s time!”
‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has sold 16 million copies since 1994.
Every year for the last 25 years, Carey fans celebrate Christmas by listening to her hit single, which is considered one of the best seasonal songs of all times by followers and critics.
In fact, Google searches for the track have a habit of ever so slightly beginning their ascent on the first day of November:
The 13-note twinkle in the song’s introduction is recognisable to countless people and has sold 16 million copies since its release.
Moreover, it is currently the 11th best-selling single of all time and the top-selling digital Christmas song of all time, according to Nielsen Music.
But it’s at its peak each year on Christmas Eve, where 11 million people streamed it that day on Spotify last year, topping the music service’s all-time record for the most-streamed song in a single day.

Before her breaking news alert that it is Christmas, Carey, 49, donned a scrappy blonde wig for Halloween to swing by model Heidi Klum’s 20th annual spooky shindig in New York City last night.
