This is why homophobic ‘death to gays’ hate preacher Steven Anderson was banned from Ireland

Faithful Word Baptist church pastor Steven Anderson

US anti-LGBT+ preacher Steven Anderson was banned from entering Ireland earlier this year because government ministers thought he was “likely to stir up hatred”.

Anderson – who preaches with the Faithful Word Baptist Church – was due to preach in Ireland earlier this year, but was given an exclusion order before his visit.

The exclusion order sent to Anderson was recently released to TheJournal.ie under the Freedom of Information Act and revealed why the Minister for Justice banned him from entering the country.

The order says that – based on Anderson’s “previous conduct” – he would likely continue to promote views that were “contrary to public policy”.

Steven Anderson was banned from entering Ireland because his views are ‘abusive and insulting’.

“The above views and actions propounded and promoted are considered to be abusive and insulting and it is also considered that they are likely to stir up hatred,” the exclusion order said.

It goes on to say that “incitement to hatred, and threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour” are against the law in Ireland.

When the Irish Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan announced earlier this year that Anderson had been banned from entering the Ireland, he said it was to protect “public policy”.

The above views and actions propounded and promoted are considered to be abusive and insulting and it is also considered that they are likely to stir up hatred.

Anderson’s ban came after a petition was signed more than 14,000 times calling on the Irish government to prevent him from entering the country.

His ban from Ireland also came just weeks after Anderson was banned from entering 29 European countries. He was banned from entering the UK in 2016.

Anderson has been making headlines for years over his anti-LGBT+ views.

Anderson — who is from Arizona — has made headlines for various sermons over the years.

In one sermon, Anderson called for gay people to be executed by stoning, claiming: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. That, my friends, is the cure for AIDS. It was right there in the Bible all along.”

Anderson also openly celebrated the Orlando massacre at the Pulse gay club, telling his congregation: “The good news is that there’s 50 less paedophiles in this world, because, you know, these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and paedophiles.”

Following his ban, Anderson hit out at Ireland on YouTube where he said the country was aligning itself with “wickedness”.
