Elton John christened Taron Egerton with a sickening drag name after filming Rocketman
Yes, after wrapping Rocketman, Elton John baptised Taron Egerton with a drag name.
Elton John released his first memoir entitled Me on October 15 and Taron Egerton lent his voice for the 11-hour audiobook.
In an interview for Entertainment Weekly, Egerton shared some of John’s incredible stories, which he relates in his book. Among them was the fact that he and his friends used to give each other drag names in the 1970s.
The ‘Are You Ready For Love’ composer was Sharon, Rod Stewart was Phyllis and Freddy Mercury was Melina.
Egerton, who has become a good friend of John’s, could not escape from it.
“I think that’s how you know he really likes you,” he said in the interview.
He unveiled his drag name and confessed: “My drag name is Blodwyn and my surname is Campervan.”
However, the Welsh actor explained: “Elton’s very keen that the stress not be on camper van. It’s on camper van, at the end.”
Egerton also clarified that the name has not been picked randomly.
Blodwyn, in Welsh, is another way to say flower, and Campervan refers to Egerton’s love for travelling in an RV with his girlfriend when he goes on holiday.
Elton John and Taron Egerton have become very close friends.
After wrapping Rocketman, the relationship between Elton John and Taron Egerton has blossomed.
The actor opened about his relationship with John after Rocketman.
“And then to have this extraordinary friendship come out of it as well — I can’t tell you how weird it is to become so close to someone that you portray,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly.
Egerton has also been performing on stage with Elton John several times, including during the Cannes Film Festival as well as during his show in Brighton & Hove.
Hence, it is not a surprise that Elton gave the responsibility of his audiobook to the actor.
Taron Egerton recalled a visit to Elton John’s house in the South of France when he dressed up as his drag persona, Blodwyn Campervan.
“And after he went to bed I found his Polaroid camera – and I borrowed my girlfriend’s clothes and I dressed up as what I imagined Blodwyn Campervan might be, and took some photos of me and my girlfriend.”
He added: “She drew a moustache on herself. So we both cross-dressed for Elton and David [Furnish]’s amusement, and put it their guest book before we left.”
Taron Egerton gave life to his drag name, and we couldn’t be happier.
