New George Michael song released for Emma Thompson’s romcom Last Christmas and it’s everything
George Michael’s new single ‘This is How (We Want You to Get High)’.
Despite his death on Christmas Day in 2016, George Michael has just released a single for Emma Thompson’s new romcom, Last Christmas.
In a bittersweet moment for his fans, the single, ‘This is How (We Want You to Get High)’, is the first music to be shared from George Michael since 2012.
The previously unheard and unreleased song was recorded during his final studio sessions and is the finale to Last Christmas, the new romantic comedy inspired by the music of George Michael and Wham!.
The film, co-written by Oscar-winning actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson, stars Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding.
The movie’s director, Paul Feig, describes Last Christmas as “a love letter to George”.
George’s sisters, dad and longtime manager David Austin said: “We hope fans and lovelies everywhere rejoice in hearing this great new song written as ever with Yog’s immense passion and pride.”
“This new track we proudly send as his gift to you this season to bring you all love and festive joy. Whoever you worship… Whoever you love…” they added.
Work on ‘This is How (We Want You to Get High)’ began in 2012, with the final touches added in late 2015 during George Michael’s final recording sessions.
Emma Thompson visited George Michael in his North London home in 2013 to talk about her idea for the screenplay, a Christmas movie inspired by Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’.
Apparently, George gave the project his blessing. Thompson was developing the script when he suddenly died on Christmas Day in 2016.
After two more years work on the movie, Thompson was given an exclusive preview of four new, finished and unreleased George Michael tracks, and she selected ‘This is How (We Want You to Get High)’ for the movie.
Last Christmas will be released in UK cinemas on November 15.
